CSV Escape properly quotes and escapes fields containing special characters (commas, quotes, newlines).
This tool handles CSV field escaping and unescaping following standard CSV format conventions (RFC 4180).
Perfect for generating valid CSV exports, embedding user content in CSV files, and cleaning CSV data.
Escaping Fields with Commas
Input: Address: 123 Main St, Suite 100 Output: "Address: 123 Main St, Suite 100"
Fields containing commas are quoted to keep them as single values.
Escaping Quotes in Fields
Input: Name: "John" (Developer) Output: "Name: ""John"" (Developer)"
Quotes within fields are escaped by doubling them.
Multiline Values
Input: Line 1\nLine 2\nLine 3 Output: "Line 1\nLine 2\nLine 3"
Fields with newlines are quoted to preserve structure.
CSV parser fails after escaping
Some CSV formats have specific dialect settings (delimiter, quote character) that may differ.
Ensure your CSV parser is configured to use commas as delimiters and double quotes for quoting.
Quotes still appear in parsed output
The outer quotes are part of CSV formatting and should be stripped by the CSV parser.
Use a proper CSV parser that handles quote removal automatically.
What is the CSV standard for escaping?
RFC 4180 is the common CSV standard. Fields with commas, quotes, or newlines must be quoted. Quotes within fields are doubled ("").
When do I need to quote CSV fields?
Quote fields if they contain: commas (,), double quotes ("), or newlines. Simple numeric/text fields without special characters don't need quoting.
What is the difference between "" and """?
"" is the CSV standard for escaping quotes. """ is an HTML entity and should not be used in CSV format.
Can I handle multiple rows?
This tool handles single field escaping. For full row/file escaping, paste each field separately or use a CSV editor.
Is my data secure?
Yes. All processing happens locally in your browser. Your data never leaves your device.
